Sycamore Hall is a small well established independent school in Doncaster for boys and girls aged 3 to 11. Founded by Headmistress Miss J Spencer and now co-run with Deputy Headmistress Mrs S Nicklin.

We achieve excellent academic standards through a traditional teaching approach and a truly passionate staff, we help students develop academically and personally to the highest level.  Pupils are encouraged to set themselves high standards with regards to academic work and behaviour and are taught valuable principles of honesty, integrity and hard work.

We have a close relationship with our pupils and their families. There are many opportunities for parents and guardians to participate in school life which creates a wonderful family atmosphere throughout the school.

Pupils take part in traditional Maypole dancing.

Regular educational visits are made to extend pupils’ experiences, some past trips have included;

York Chocolate Story, Newby Hall, Conisbrough Castle, Chatsworth House, Blue John Cavern and many more.

We also have an annual trip to see a traditional Pantomime at Christmas and regularly visit the local church for activities and community fundraising.

The school premises are used to enrich the curriculum by making effective use of the garden, the pond and wildlife, including the pet cats and fish. Extra-curricular activities are provided after school. They include use of the piano, traditional toys, film club, chess club and gardening.

The whole school performs an annual stage production in the style of a traditional Christmas pantomime. All pupils have to opportunity to participate in costume design, choreography and acting. It is a much loved tradition at Sycamore Hall and is looked forward to each year.

In the spring children perform traditional Maypole dances and give presentations of the terms work at one of our open days.

The school provides a variety of sporting opportunities for pupils and makes effective use of local facilities. We often walk to the local recreation centre and field where pupils can participate in tennis, football, cross country running and athletic skills.

At the end of summer we hold a sports day. Parents are invited to watch the children compete in traditional events including favourites such as, the three legged race, sack race and crackerjack. The parent's race and tug of war are a highlight and can get a bit competitive!

Proven Results

The school ethos is based upon the development of the individual child within an extensive and challenging curriculum.  The aim of the school is to provide a sound academic and social education and to develop a positive attitude towards academic work, promoting concentration, self discipline and a sense of achievement.

Small classes ensure a high degree of individual attention and allows each child’s development to be closely monitored. We offer a tailor-made, bespoke education for every child with extra tuition included if required.

We achieve excellent results in secondary independent and grammar school entrance examinations with many academic scholarships to a wide variety of schools being attained.  A large number of our alumni have gone on to study at top institutions including Oxford and Cambridge Universities and Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Be Involved

All the family play a huge role in contributing to the atmosphere at Sycamore Hall. We have close relationships with the families of our students which enables us to support them with their education and general wellbeing. In addition to parents evenings and written progress reports, carers are encouraged to have open conversation with teachers regarding schooling, topic work and homework.

Many parents, Grandparents and other family members also choose to get involved with activities such as fundraising, school trips, school plays and of course Sports day.

Parents and carers participate in the "Dad's" race on Sports Day.
